Description

Austin based 19-year old boy is in need of a long-term, live-in, Mentor/Life Coach who can start by August 22, 2022. The Mentor can be male or female but must have experience (professional or volunteer) in working with youth as a life/health coach, camp counselor, mentor, nanny, teacher or something similar. We are looking for a wonderful person to fill this special role for this young man who can lead by example and help him to learn to live independently while he discovers what he wants to do in life.

The schedule is M-F starting at 7am-8am where the young man will need encouragement and supervision in getting ready for his school/work program. The program is M-F 8am-3pm so during this time the Mentor will have this time off. This is a great opportunity for a college student or someone whose work schedule is flexible around these hours. After picking up the young man from his program at 3pm the mentor will be responsible for supervising and hanging out with him for the rest of the evening until 9pm. Since this is a live-in position in a 2-bedroom apartment with the young man, the Mentor cannot have any overnight guests at any time.

Other duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • All grocery shopping
  • Light housekeeping
  • All shopping for the young man and the apartment (toiletries, household and cleaning supplies etc.)
  • Supervision of school work
  • Driving to and from work/school program
  • Making healthy dinners (supervising a healthy breakfast)
  • Keeping up CPR/First Aid certifications
  • Supervising the young man with his chores
  • Providing positive social interactions
  • Limiting the young man’s time on his computer
  • Making sure the young man is taking his meds

Qualifications and characteristics in the Mentor include the following:

  • Good driving record
  • Has basic cooking skills
  • Trustworthy and able to maintain the utmost confidentiality
  • Joyful, energetic and optimistic
  • Someone who does not party, smoke, do drugs or indulge in inappropriate behavior
  • Limiting personal use of cell phone during work hours (7am-8am & 3pm-9pm)
  • Clean, organized and self motivated
  • Punctual, reliable and trustworthy
  • Excellent communication with the parents
  • Very patient and a great motivator
  • Must have outstanding work and character references

It's important that the Mentor is flexible when the parents are in town from New York as they may stay at the apartment but will provide other housing for the Mentor such as a hotel or Airbnb. Since the parents are the employers, the Mentor will need to prioritize communication with them and make sure to check in regularly, send all receipts related to the position and be flexible to the parent’s wishes for their son. An ideal candidate will also be able to communicate the young man’s milestones with the parents over time.
