Description
We are seeking a warm, seasoned, and highly discreet Part-Time to Full-Time Elder Caregiver / Companion to oversee the overall well-being of an independent widow in the early stages of dementia with memory loss in Tesuque, New Mexico.
The caregiver will primarily support the Principal’s mother, while maintaining regular communication with the Principal and her Household Manager, who oversee her mother’s care and the overall household. There is a small private casita on the property available for the right candidate should housing be desired.
This is a long-term opportunity for an experienced caregiver who genuinely enjoys supporting older adults and understands how to thoughtfully navigate early memory loss. The ideal candidate knows how to help maintain a client’s sense of independence while gently providing the structure, reminders, and support necessary for daily well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Companionship and Personal / Household Oversight
- Provide daily companionship and thoughtful oversight for the Principal’s mother
• Maintain regular check-ins to ensure her comfort, safety, and overall well-being
• Help maintain the rhythm and organization of the home
• Coordinate vendors, contractors, and service providers when needed
• Monitor household supplies and ensure the home remains well maintained and properly stocked
• Maintain clear communication with the Principal and her Household Manager regarding updates, concerns, or observations
Personal Assistance
- Manage appointments, scheduling, and transportation to medical or personal appointments
• Handle errands and personal tasks with discretion and efficiency
• Provide warm companionship that gradually builds trust and comfort with assistance
• Maintain kitchen organization and oversee grocery shopping and household supplies
• Encourage healthy meals and proper food management within the home
• Assist with outings, walks, and light daily activities when appropriate
• Help ensure the client maintains a safe and supportive daily routine
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is service-oriented, proactive, and emotionally intelligent, with a genuine appreciation for supporting older adults with dignity and respect.
A background in private eldercare or companion care within private homes is strongly preferred, particularly for individuals who have experience navigating early memory loss with patience and grace. The right individual is confident yet gentle in their approach, understands how to offer assistance without diminishing independence, and communicates thoughtfully with both the client and the Principal overseeing her care.
