Most house sitters make $25-$100+ dollars per day, depending upon the distance, the hours required at the home, and the duties.

Typical Hours


Some house sitters are just asked to sleep over, while others are asked to be around at certain times during the day; however, most are asked to live in the home while the owners are away according to their schedule.

Household Manager

An estate manager or household manager, are relatively the same thing. Each is responsible for the general operation and management of the home. However, estate manager’s duties are more complex of the residence and their standards. They typically have other sophisticated household staff, large estates around the country or world, and are paid a much higher salary. An estate manager has an understanding and knowledge of high-end etiquette, and is familiar with all household staff positions and what they do. Household managers know the same things in a more down to earth style.

For household managers the average annual salary is usually between $30,000-$50,000+, and for estate managers it can go up to $150,000 depending upon the experience, duties and knowledge required, travel, and other factors.

Typical Hours

The typical live out hours are about 30-55 hours a week. Whereas a live in manager usually works longer hours, has more flexibility, and is provided with separate living quarters and a higher salary.
