Estate Staffing
The Deborah Calkin Agency specializes in the “matchmaking” process of our placements with clients and candidates. The most important part of this process is knowing who our clients are and finding the right candidates who would best compliment them. The DCA thrives in staffing estates of all sizes. Our candidates are some of the best in their field and have hands-on experience or formal training from reputable domestic schools and institutions from all over the country. We only place those who come with high recommendations and references from former employers or teachers. Our standards are set high and tough to meet, but we place the most importance in the integrity of the individual which is something that we do not take lightly. The agency continually recruits candidates from all over the world who want to live and work in New Mexico, as well as placing New Mexico candidates outside of the state for those interested in travel, or those who chose to reside elsewhere. We look forward to finding you your household solutions so that you can enjoy a more stress-free lifestyle.
Estate Managers
An Estate Manager or Household Manager are relatively the same thing. Each is responsible for the general operation and management of the home. Both are trained and experienced in the complexity of the residence and their standards. Estate Managers typically have other sophisticated household staff and are trained to work in households of approximately 20,000 square feet or more. They typically require travel to other large estates around the country or world, and usually housing is provided. A Household Manager works in households with less square feet but is as knowledgeable as an Estate Manager to operate the running of the home. Both have an understanding and knowledge of formal etiquette for formal households and are familiar with all household staff positions and what they do.
Below are examples of typical duties or skills required for both Household and Estate Managers: (some duties listed are delegated by the managers)
- Financial oversight
- Policy making authority of other staff

Personal Chefs
Although it may seem that personal chefs are only for the wealthy, you may be surprised to know that utilizing a personal chef can be far more economical than eating out or even preparing a meal yourself. They are quickly becoming more and more popular due to the fact that people want to eat healthier, and don’t have the skills or time to shop for, prepare, cook, and clean up after every meal. Chefs are skilled in not letting anything go to waste, and can work with most budgets and diets. They have a temperament that is flexible to last minute changes, different taste palates, and special requests.
Your next step is deciding what kind of chef to hire.
Some specialize on nutrition and special diets. They will abide by the dietary requirements and restrictions you have, and can still make something different for someone else. Many chefs also prepare weight loss meals, zone diet meals, and weight loss snacks and desserts.
For those who want a more high-end experience, we have chefs who have been trained at culinary institutes around the world with experience in some of the most prestigious restaurants. They are skilled in cooking a variety of international cuisines, and gourmet delicacies. Some also offer kitchen consulting, and catering for special events.
There are off-site chefs who deliver meals to a home, business, or party, that are ready for heating and serving. Their main responsibility is to deliver the meals on time, and willing to serve the food; however, they are not responsible for any clean up. Our on-site chefs are those who cook from your home, clean up, serve, and a variety of other things listed below.
Typical duties for on-site personal chefs:
- Grocery shopping
- Meal planning and preparation
- Cooking meals, snacks, desserts etc…
- Party planning
- Catering
- Ability to maintain a record of family and guest preferences
- Kitchen clean-up
Average Salary
For an off-site chef, their salary ranges greatly according to their experience, promptness, number of meals and variations, distance for delivery, and other factors. Some charge an hourly rate plus gas mileage, while others charge a base fee according to the menu desired. Each chef will work within your budget and give you an estimated amount for their service. There will be a signed agreement in the initial consultation, with a cancellation policy. This policy is to ensure the chef that if there is a last minute cancellation after they have already purchased and prepared the food they will still be paid in full.
An on-site chef’s salary also greatly ranges from $15-$45 per hour depending upon what kind of chef you desire, their experience, and their duties.

Estate Staffing Application
Before downloading the application please read our guidelines for all applicants applying with the Deborah Calkin Agency below.
- The Deborah Calkin Agency has a no tolerance "no show" policy. If a situation arises where a domestic employee is not able to make it into work after a placement, the domestic employee must call their employer as soon as they know they are not going to make it in we will not be able to place them again in the future. The same rule applies for being late or scheduling an interview with the Deborah Calkin Agency.
- If we discover anyone applying for a position using any false information in a resume, references, or job experience, we will not be able to place them or use them again in the future.
- Honesty is the best policy. We only place applicants who are sincere, responsible and reliable. In some cases, if we are impressed with an applicant who may not have a lot of professional experience (hey, everyone has to start somewhere right?) we will do our best to place them with a client who is more flexible and open to someone with a lot of potential lacking the experience.
- If any applicant is not willing to take a drug test if requested by our agency or a client, or is unable to bring the required documents to an interview please do not apply. Most clients will not request a drug test, however, we only use applicants who we are sure will be more than willing to take a drug test and pass it.
- If an applicant does not have a resume for the position they are applying for then make one! Providing a resume shows professionalism, and the DCA does not accept anything less.
- Each domestic applicant must provide 3 personal non-related references by former employers, teachers, professors, coaches, pastors, etc...
- All applicants' needs a minimum of 2 references related to the position they are applying to, or a minimum of one year of experience. However, some positions require a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience.
- All applicants must be willing to undergo a further in depth investigation if requested by a client or the Deborah Calkin Agency, such as fingerprinting or a credit report if entering a management position.
- If we are unable to get in touch with at least 2 or 3 references within 1 week we will be unable to send an applicant to interview for any positions. If an applicant's references do not respond we will contact the applicant, and then it is the applicant's responsibility to get in touch with their references and have them call the agency.
- If any applicant violates any written agreements signed with the Deborah Calkin Agency they may be held financially responsible for any lost wages incurred by the agency, or face legal judgments.
Please bring the application completely filled out to the interview. The DCA does NOT take walk-ins, to schedule an interview send a request to jobs@DebsDomesticAgency.com
